    "Unique keys for every zone and purpose." may be prohibitively
    expensive in some cases and an economic necessity in others.

Apart from these and other things already mentioned, there is a part
in this discussion missing: the wish of the registraant. He/She
might want to have control over its owm domain and prefer to use
its own key. In that case you can, think about running your own
server as well, but that is not the point.
