Somewhere in this process someone needs to drive contacting the 
various hotel chains upper-level IT staff.

Michael's web page is quite nice. I would envision a central 
repository that reports on hotels, and includes pages describing how 
some of these services might be provided and why they might want to 
do this. Then it becomes much simpler to point someone (IT 
management, etc) to the site and have it be self-explanatory.
